About Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology

What is Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology?

Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology (RB&E) is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal aiming for the wide distribution of results from excellent research in the reproductive sciences.

RB&E represents a global platform for reproductive and developmental biologists, reproductive endocrinologists, immunologists, theriogenologists, infertility specialists, obstetricians, gynecologists, andrologists, urogynecologists, specialists in menopause, reproductive tract oncologists, and reproductive epidemiologists.

The journal scope covers gametogenesis, fertilization, early embryonic development, embryo-uterus interaction, reproductive development, pregnancy, uterine biology, endocrinology of reproduction, control of reproduction, reproductive immunology, neuroendocrinology, and veterinary and human reproductive medicine (except Case Reports). All vertebrate species are covered.

RB&E also covers clinical subjects such as the pathophysiology of reproduction (e.g. sterility, infertility and abnormal pregnancy, and reproductive tract infections), age-associated changes and disorders of the reproductive tract (e.g. peri- and postmenopausal periods, urinary incontinence and other pelvic floor disorders, impact of hormone replacement therapy), reproductive tissue cancers (e.g. prostate, ovary, uterus, cervix, breast), and the impact of environmental and occupational hazards on reproduction.

Content overview

Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology considers the following types of articles:

  • Research - reports of data from original research.
  • Debate articles - present an argument that is not essential based on practical research. Debate articles can report on all aspects of the subject including sociological and ethical aspects.
  • Hypotheses - short articles presenting an untested original hypothesis backed solely by previously published results rather than any new evidence. They should outline significant progress in thinking that would also be testable.
  • Methodology articles - present a new experimental method, test or procedure. The method described may either be completely new, or may offer a better version of an existing method.
  • Review - comprehensive, authoritative descriptions of any subject within the scope of the journal; these articles are usually written by opinion leaders that have been invited by the Editorial Board.

Peer review policies

Contributors to Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology (RB&E) benefit from fast and professional peer review, resulting in rapid publication of excellent research - the priority of the RB&E peer review policy. In most instances at least three reviewers are involved in the review of research articles. The Editorial Office has more than three hundred registered experts covering various fields of RB&E scientific interests. The review process is strictly anonymous, and the time from online manuscript submission to editorial decision is between three to four weeks (2 week review period with additional 1 to 2 weeks for recruitment of reviewers and editorial processing). RB&E allows authors a maximum of two revisions of an article, assuming resubmitted manuscripts show significant improvement.

Edited by Antonin Bukovsky, Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology is supported by an international Editorial Board.

Publishing in Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology

All articles will be listed in PubMed immediately upon acceptance (after peer review), and will be covered by PubMed Central, MEDLINE, Thomson Reuters (ISI), CAS, Biosis and Embase.

Articles in Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology should be cited in the same way as articles in a traditional journal. However, because articles in this journal are not printed, they do not have page numbers. Instead, they have a unique article number.

The following citation:

Reprod Biol Endocrinol 2004, 2:1

refers to article 1 from volume 2 of the journal.

As an online journal, Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology does not have issue numbers. Each volume corresponds to a calendar year.
